The trial lawyers of Kershaw Talley Barlow are currently representing residents and small business owners in Capitola, California who were injured as a result of a gas explosion that occurred on December 25, 2024, Christmas morning. See filed complaint here.
The explosion completely destroyed a two-story residential building in the heart of the Capitola Village, greatly damaged a neighboring historic residential building and restaurant, interrupted business throughout the Village, and brought fear and distress to community members, many of whom feared the potential for another explosion without any warning.
Our clients allege that the gas explosion was caused by Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and involved an electrical overheating event and non-compliant PG&E electrical and gas lines. The electrical defect in PG&E electrical wiring melted holes in a nearby PG&E gas service line located within the same underground trench. Our plaintiffs allege that gas was released for roughly 2 hours before it oxygenated and found an ignition point, blowing up the building at 105 Lawn Way. One of the residents was at home at the time of the explosion and suffered significant injuries from the blast.
To efficiently represent everyone who was harmed by the gas explosion in one way or another, we have initiated a class action against PG&E. The goal is for the utility company to address its allegedly non-compliant electrical and gas lines throughout the Capitola Village and to work with the City and community members to ensure such an event will not occur again. In addition, our attorneys are continuing to investigate claims on behalf of residents and local business owners who have been harmed by this event and will bring separate cases on their behalf.
