Ian J. Barlow

Partner

A partner at Kershaw Talley Barlow, Ian J. Barlow focuses primarily on complex litigation in both state and federal courts. He is a talented lawyer who understands the value of preparation and strategy to secure the best possible outcome in court. He handles cases involving consumer class actions, wage and hour claims, product liability, mass torts, fraud, whistleblower claims, among other practice areas.

Ian has proven that his dedication to his clients and hard work translates to outstanding results, even in highly complicated actions against large, multinational corporations. He has handled significant matters against such companies as DirecTV, Wal-Mart, BMW, PG&E, Toyota, and Electrolux, as well as cases coordinated and consolidated in multi-district litigation. Ian has also represented individuals, businesses, and public entities in a variety of disputes. His passion for helping others shows through the personal service he provides to his clients, along with his willingness to go the extra mile to secure the most advantageous result. He is a member of local, state, and national legal organizations and heavily involved in the Sacramento community. For instance, Ian has been active in the following organizations and community groups:

Over the course of his career he has written on consumer protection and class action practice, and received recognition by his peers as a Northern California Super Lawyers “Rising Star” (awarded to just 2.5% of attorneys in the state), a “Northern California Super Lawyer” (awarded to only 5% of attorneys in the state), for “Best of the Bar” in the Sacramento Business Journal, as a “Top Lawyer” in Sacramento Magazine, and was Peer Rated for the Highest Level of Professional Excellence with an “AV-Preeminent” rating from Martindale Hubbell. Ian and his wife enjoy spending time with their two kids, Myles and Bennett, and have mixed feelings about their labradoodle, Penny. Ian is also a devoted Cal alum (where he was in the University of California Marching Band) and an avid fan of the Sacramento Kings.

Ian served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Robert M. Takasugi in the Central District of California and clerked at the Western Center on Law & Poverty as well as Southern California civil rights law firms Litt, Estuar Harrison & Kitson LLP, and Hadsell Stormer & Renick LLP. Before attending law school, Ian was a staff member for California State Assemblywoman Dion Aroner, serving as a liaison to local governments and community groups on issues such as affordable housing, developmental disabilities, transportation, and education. He was also a Coro fellow in the Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs.

A UCLA School of Law graduate with concentrations in the Public Interest Law and Policy and Critical Race Studies programs, Ian also holds degrees in Rhetoric and Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Luskin School of Public Affairs at UCLA. Ian is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in California.
